A little bit of Hull

The Hotel is 30 minutes from the centre of possibly the most vibrant city in the country.

The city is undergoing a dramatic transformation. Historically it has been linked with fishing, but the only remnants of this are largely in the cities maritime museum in Victoria square. Replacing the old docks and lining the waterfront are shopping centres, museums and a host of other attractions.

Hull Museums include tributes to William Wilberforce who campaigned against slavery; A celebration of transport; a regional history; the maritime museum (hull was once an important whaling port; Feren's Art gallery; Hands on History; and the fascinating Spurn Lightship to be found in the Marina.

Hull is great for shopping , it has a healthy combination of large chain stores with plenty of small independently run shops. The city centre is the subject of a massive half a billion pounds worth of investment in shopping and leisure facilities, along a unique waterfront of the rivers Humber and Hull.

The 'rough guide' to Hull would include, for bargain hunters, the Sunday market at Walton Street. Hessle road, Holderness road, Newland avenue, Beverley Road and Sunnybank all provide a good range of weird & wonderful shops selling specialised products and providing excellent customer service.

If, by day Hull is 'shopping city', by night it is transformed into 'entertainment city' with great dining, a truly amazing array of nightlife options on offer and an excellent and growing reputation throughout the North. With over 170 leisure outlets, including more than 100 pubs and clubs (links to Hull virtual pub crawl) and 30 places to eat, City Centre Hull now ranks as one of the country's biggest nightlife and entertainment destinations.  Just don't try to cross the river without using a bridge!

One of the newest and biggest attractions is the Deep, just go to the web-site for more! http://www.thedeep.co.uk/

The City has two theatres:

Hull New Theatre http://www.hullcc.gov.uk/hullnewtheatre

Hull Truck:

Comedy seems to be the speciality and they are very good at it.  The theatre is led by John Godber one of the countries leading playwrights. My claim to fame came when I worked with his dad at Cortonwood colliery during the miners strike 1983/84!

Other entertainment venues include

City Hall: http://www.hullcc.gov.uk/cityhall

Hull Screen: http://www.hullcc.gov.uk/

During the year Hull plays host to a variety of events. Not least of these is the humungous Hull Fair.

Traditionally the final gathering of many of the countries travelling fairs they all come together on the Walton street / West park area for a scintillating combination sights sounds and smells that create a tremendous atmosphere. Try to be in Hull Mid October every year to catch this experience.

For sporting types then the much acclaimed KC stadium plays host to Hull City FC (Soccer)  and Hull FC (Rugby). In addition it is gaining a great reputation for one of the north leading music venues.
